Residential Code (International Residential Code-IRC)
4/1/07, 7th Edition of the Residential Code released.
             1/1/08 Update packet released.  Cost $10.00
             8/8/08 Update packet released.  Cost $4.00
8/8/08, New release of 7th Edition Residential Code.
             This printing contains all previous updates.

NOTE:  The 7th edition Residential Code replaces Chapter 36 of the 6th edition Mass State Building Code which is no longer in effect.

Commercial Code (International Building Code-IBC)
9/1/08, 7th Edition of the Commercial Code released.

NOTE: The 6th and 7th edition Commercial Code will be in effect from 9/1/08 to 3/1/09. Building permits applied for during this period can use either code.  After 3/1/09 the 7th edition will be in full effect. 

 

Unrestricted Construction Supervisor License will require you to own 2 code books, both the IRC and the IBC. Restricted License will require you to own only the IRC.

Books and updates are available for sale and can be ordered from the State Book Store through their web site at www.sec.state.ma.us/spr.

Important note:
You need to keep track of the original date of your code book and updates. On the front page of the book in the lower right hand corner of the page is Sec of State William GalvinÕs signature. Above and to the left is the date your book became effective.  From that date onward you need to keep a record of updates added to the book.
